He was predeceased by: his parents, Norman Robert and Mildred Laura Schrimper Mertz; and his brothers, Kenneth, Robert and Kurt Mertz.
He is survived by: his wife Kathleen Anne Brave Mertz; his daughters, Kristen Dawn Mertz of St. Louis, MO., Stacy Erin Hostetler (Adam) of Bentonville, AR., Meredith Michelle Graham (Robert) of St. Louis, MO and Aneda Kathleen Jackson of Raleigh, NC; his sister Mildred Adaline Eleanor Weber of Fenton, MO.; and his grandchildren, Michael, Amanda, Kavan, Teddy, Luke, Colt and Ace. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren.
