He was predeceased by: his parent Willie Mae Hemphill Barnette. He is survived by: his wife Beneta Douglas Barnette; his sons, Steve Rainer (Maranda), Dantavius Ware (Michelle) and Eric Barnette Jr. (Sandy); his stepson Joseph Gillespie; his great grandchild Connie; his cousins, James Barnette (Lydia) and Yama H. Hill (Everette); his close friend Bill Ragan; and his uncle Emitt Hemphill (Cora). He is also survived by ten grandchildren.
