He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Charles and Emma Howard Charles; his birth mother Rosa Colclough; his siblings, Minnie Lee Davis, Richard Howard, Teresa Charles McFadden and Ellen Colclough; and his nephew Terry Davis.

He is survived by: his wife Crystal G. Charles; his children, Horton H. Charles, Jr. (Kerri) of Seattle, WA, Caleb Phifer of Kannapolis, NC, Latasha Charles (Karry Gilliard) of Kannapolis, NC, Amoni Phifer of Kannapolis, NC and Talasia Charles of Kannapolis, NC; his stepsons, Terrell Bagley of Kannapolis, NC, Terrance Bagley of Kannapolis, NC and Tyreese Bagley of Kannapolis, NC; his siblings, Connie Cruse (Mike), Thomasina Colclough, Donald Colclough and Alonzo "Toby" Howard; his aunt Thelma Evans; and his brother-in-law Walter Davis. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
