He was predeceased by: his parents, Sarah Shoaf Newsome and Leonard Grant Newsome; his son Michael Gene Newsome; his brother Darrell Grant Newsome; and his pet Weenie.
He is survived by: his wife Elaine Christenbury Newsome; his son Kevin Wayne Newsome (Crystal) of Concord; his grandchildren, Megan Burleyson (T. J.) and Garrett Wayne Newsome; his great grandchildren, Jentry Burleyson and Savanna Burleyson; and his siblings, Gail Porter (Ron) of Concord, Charles Newsome of Concord and Rodney Newsome of Albemarle. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 11th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Wilkinson Funeral Home (100 Branchview Dr NE, Concord, NC 28025). A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 12th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 4:45 PM at the same location. A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 12th 2026 from 5:15 PM to 5:45 PM at the West Concord Cemetery (331 Union Cemetery Rd SW, Concord, NC 28027).
