He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Thornton and Rita Truitt Thornton. He is survived by: his wife Paula; his children, Megan, Jenny and Matthew (Carlee); his brothers, Jon (Julie) and Lee; and his mother-in-law Linda Crossland. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephew, and many dear friends.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Pitts Baptist Church (140 Pitts School Rd NW, Concord, NC 28027).
In his later years, Parkinson's disease and dementia took away his ability to ride, but cycling remained a meaningful part of the life he had enjoyed and the memories he created.
