He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Obie Thompson and Ola Mae Moore Thompson; his daughter Julie Canter; and his brother Joe Thompson. He is survived by: his wife Kay Bennick Thompson; his daughters, Ellen Griffin (Richard) of Kannapolis and Kellie Schladensky (Rob) of Concord; his grandchildren, Joshua Canter (Molly), Justin Canter (Lee Anne), Emily Mullis (Davey), Joseph Therrell (Holly), Seth Spears (Erica), Caleb Spears and Kaci Spears; and his great grandchildren, Penny, Melody Canter, Ella, Everette, Ezra Canter, Michael Mullis and Ivy Spears.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081 or to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 731 Union Street S. Concord, NC 28025.
