He was predeceased by: his parents, Coy James and Mary Leigh Honaker Hess; his son Brian Lee Hess; and his siblings, Raymond Hess, Dorsey Hess, Ella May Goetz, Otis Hess, Roger Lee Hess, Darrell James Hess and Clinton Hess.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Hess; his son Steven Hess (Rebecca Johnson); his grandson Steven Carlis Hess (Krista Noel Hess); his great grandchildren, Noeven Lee Hess (Nichole Canter), Dale Fullen Hess and James David Boughman (Kristen); his siblings, Carl Hess, Harvey Hess (Sue), David Hess (Judy), Eula Faye Blankenship (Glen), Della Gay Parkhurst (Jerry), Anna Ray Burkhart and Linda Kay Woodward; and his pet Buddy. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
