He is survived by: his wife Beverly Kay Britton Smith; his children, Sheila Kay Ferebee (Joseph, Jr.) of Disputanta, Virginia, James Etheridge Smith (Kizzy Duncan) of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and Eric Dean Smith (Hope) of Alpharetta, Georgia; his grandsons, Nathan Joseph Ferebee and Jacob Brooks Ferebee of Disputanta, Virginia.; and his siblings, Betty Lou Johnson of Roanoke Rapids, Constance Smith Tudor Cannon of Brodnax and Glenn Smith (Lou) of Roanoke Rapids. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
