He was predeceased by: his parents, Bernice Matthews and Stanford Matthews. He is survived by: his wife Rosalie Costilow Matthews; his sister Margaret Matthews Chaney; his children, James "Jimmy" Matthews (Dale), Debbie Matthews Jenkins and Teresa Matthews Truitt (Bobby); his grandchildren, Matthew Cole, Lisa Goodman (Dana), Karis Cornett (Nick), Brianne Hill (Ryan) and Maddie Bazemore (Cy); and his great grandchildren, William, Aleeyah of Alaynah, PJ, Adam, Zach and Jax. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and four stepdaughters.
