He was predeceased by: his parents, Louise Anna Barnett of Durham, NC. and James Clifton Barnett of Durham, NC.; his wife Eloise Barnett of Durham, NC; and his siblings, Kenneth Barnett of Durham, Mike Barnett of Alton, VA, Johnny Barnett of Creedmoor, James "Scrappy" Barnett of Durham, Margaret "Grey" Flessner of Durham, Billie Faye Grant of Dunn, Ethel Smith (Okla) of Tulsa and Mary Barnett of Durham.
He is survived by: his daughter Toni Watkins (Larry Watkins) of Louisburg; his stepdaughter Tina Freeman (Scott Freeman) of Creedmoor; his sisters, Janie Scott (Michael Scott) of Creedmoor and Loray Averette of Gibsonville, NC.; his grandsons, Mason Speight (Ashley Speight) of Fremont, NC and Connor Freeman of Creedmoor; and his great grandchildren, Avery Speight, Beau Speight, Tripp Speight, Gentry Speight, Austin Speight and Layla Speight of Fremont, NC. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 15th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Sossamon Funeral Home of Creedmoor (834 N Main St, Creedmoor, NC 27522). A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 15th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Oak Grove Cemetery (3712 Cheek Rd, Durham, NC 27704).
