He was predeceased by: his parents, E. E. Kanupp and Clara Killian Kanupp; his granddaughter Abigail Kanupp; his sisters, Imogene Hefner and Ruth Burrus; and his siblings' children, Beth Bedington, Andy Burrus and Scott Hefner.

He is survived by: his wife Linda Propst Kanupp; his sons, Matt Kanupp (Mendy) of Dallas, NC and Jeff Kanupp (Clara) of Conover, NC; his grandchildren, Kayla, McKenzie, Grace, Camden and Blake; and his sister-in-law Jane Propst of Clemmons, NC.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, July 24th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church (4420 County Home Rd, Conover, NC 28613).
