She was predeceased by: her husband James Edward Smith; her parents, Conrad Graham Torrence and Rosa Lee Gant Torrence; her in-laws, James Ernest Smith and Coetta Hall Smith Norman; and her sisters-in-law, Gladys Smith Hauser and Bettie Jo Smith Linville.

She is survived by: her children, Karen Smith Hart (Gary) of Denver, James Michael Smith (Jennifer) of Sheldon, SC and Jeannie Smith Rogers (Eric) of Charleston; her grandchildren, Lindsay Forster-Pritchard (Ben) of Huntersville, Katherine Patterson (Chad) of Newton Grove, NC, Stacey Moser (Cary) of Huntersville, J. Tyler Smith of Huntersville, Harrison Rogers of Raleigh and Grayson Rogers of Charleston; her great grandchildren, Hayden Kelly of Huntersville, Zoe Pritchard of Huntersville, Boone Moser of Huntersville and Avery Moser of Huntersville; her sisters, Elizabeth Torrence Alexander and Odessa Torrence Archer; and her siblings-in-law, Donald Smith (Donnie) and Mary Smith.
