With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Betty Jean Harris of Deep Run, North Carolina, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on May 7, 2024 at the age of 88. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by : her husband Joel McCray Harris; her parents, Carl Leighton and Annabelle Dawson Smith; and her brother Carl Leighton Smith. She is survived by : her daughters, Dawn Harris of Kinston, Diane H. Howard (Tommy) of Kinston and Donna H. Stroud (Johnny) of Deep Run; her grandchildren, T. J. Howard (Katelin), Ashley H. Eubanks (Justin), Brad Howard (Brittney), Olivia Stroud and Aubrey Stroud; her great grandchildren, Paisley, Paxton, Talon Howard, Brayden, Brody, Brinley Howard, Cayson, Makenzie and Raegan Eubanks; and her sister Faye Coleman. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other close family members and friends.

A funeral service was held on Friday, May 10th 2024 at 6:00 PM at the Howard - Carter Funeral Home (1608 W Vernon Ave, Kinston, NC 28504). A burial was held on Saturday, May 11th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Pinelawn Memorial Park (4488 W Vernon Ave, Kinston, NC 28504).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lenoir County SPCA, 3200 US 258 North, Kinston, NC 28504.
