He was predeceased by: his father Don Lee Thomas. He is survived by: his mother Kay Hulin Thomas of Thomasville; his wife Audrey Wilkes Surratt; and his children, Jacob Arthur Thomas of Archdale, Blake Watson Surratt of Denton and Molly Elizabeth Surratt of Denton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Operation North State, 151 Windemere Court, Winston-Salem, NC 27127.
