He was predeceased by: his children, Douglas and Martha Ann; his grandson John Manly Gore IV; his siblings, Ronnie and Connie Hayes; and his son-in-law Ron Matzick.

He is survived by: his children, Stephen Dale Hayes (Norma Jean) of Columbus County, Connie Lynn Matzick of Thomasville, Lora Jean Porter (George) of Thomasville and Samuel Dean Hayes (Amy) of Lexington; and his grandchildren, Marie Gore, Stacey Emmons, Kimberly Nobles, Brittany Richardson, Bradie Hulin, Lindsey York and Karralee Hayes. He is also survived by twenty-two great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.
