He was predeceased by: his parents, John H. Stewart and Myrtle M. Stewart (Charlotte); his wife Jean Brown Stewart; and his siblings, William, Howard, Blanche and Gussie.

He is survived by: his sister Alice Stewart of Montreal, Canada.; his children, Phyllis Cochran (Art), Tim Stewart (Penny) and Beth Myers (Rob); his grandchildren, Casey Unger (Ben), Sam Cochran (Jamie), Ashlee Knight (Justin), George Stewart and Bekka Myers; and his great grandchildren, William, Audrey Unger, Shelby, Colt Cochran and Elvie Knight. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
