He was predeceased by: his parents, Hassell Paul Key and Mary Lettie Vernon Key; his former wife Janice Sidney Comer Key; his wife Elizabeth Mitchell Key; and his brothers, Hassell Stephen "Steve" Key and Teddy "Ted" Dale Key Mr.
He is survived by: his children, Monica Carol Key (Thomas Craig), Teresa Key (Alton Todd Key) and Tracy Key (Jason Paul Key); his sister-in-law Jane Lynch Key; and his nieces and nephews, Stephanie, Holly, Sandra and Dale. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zephyr Baptist Church, 985 Hodges Mill Road, Dobson NC 27017.
