She was predeceased by: her parents, James Earl Best and Lona Pate Best; her husband James L. Lewis; her son James H. Lewis; and her brother Harold Best.
She is survived by: her daughters, Peggy Wallace (Robert) and Lynn Smith (Jimmy); her granddaughter Heather Crumpler; her great grandchild Luke Crumpler; and her siblings, Henry Best (Grace) and Marilyn Hollamon (Ed).
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home (2873 US-117, Dudley, NC 28333). A funeral service was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to Dudley Christian Church, 212 O'Berry Road, Dudley, NC 28333, or Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
