He was predeceased by: his father Bobby Ray Herring of Sampson County; and his brother Eddie Ray Herring. He is survived by: his mother Shelby Jean Peterson Herring of Clinton; his wife Rosemary McLamb Herring; his children, Wyatt Evan and Peyton Rose Herring; his sister Beverly Herring Smith (Johnny) of Newton Grove; his sibling's children, Tracy Smith, Brian Smith (Wendy), Kayla Bell and Spencer Herring (Alaina); and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Brady Smith, Brennon Bell, Gray Davis Bell, Raelynn and Paisley Herring.

In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the college fund for Carl's children is greatly appreciated.
