He was predeceased by: his parents, Harvey Avery and Ethel Avery; and his siblings, Preston, Glenn, Wayne Avery and Jessie Mae Evans (Sylvia Griffin Avery).
He is survived by: his sister Delores Royals; his nieces and nephews, Robbie Avery (Tina), James Avery (Angie) and Susan Strong Morris (Benjie); and his grandchildren, Amanda Strong, Griffin Strong (Tess), James Wyatt Avery and Rosemary Barnes (Amanda).
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Maple Grove Christian Church, 1500 Maple Grove Church Rd., Jamesville, NC 27846, where he was baptized at the ripe old age of 90.
