He was predeceased by: his father Andrew L. Mooney Sr.; his wife Alice Smith Mooney; his daughter-in-law Sherrie Mooney; and his brothers-in-law, Louis Freeland, Ronald Smith and Mike Cates.

He is survived by: his children, Preston Mooney, Vickie Holleman (Mike) and Jeff Mooney (Claudia); his grandchildren, Ryan Holleman (Tammy), Chase Holleman (Kendal) and Christian Holleman (Kamile); his great grandchildren, Karli, Beau, Rhett and CJ; his sister Alice Freeland; his nephews, Larry Freeland (Vickie) and Dennis Freeland; and his extended family, Carolyn Cate (Larry), Charles Smith (Jackie), Lee Smith (Patsy), Diane Cates, Gail Bryant (Dean) and Kenny Smith (Yvonne).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to a Church of their choice or Duke HomeCare and Hospice.
