He was predeceased by: his mother Mollie Harris Tharrington; and his brothers, Kenneth, Carl, J. B. and Bobby Tharrington.

He is survived by: his father Grady Spencer; his wife Sandie Knox Tharrington; his sons, Michael Tharrington, Gary Tharrington (Allegra) and Aaron Griffin (Anita); his grandchildren, Michelle, Sarah Tharrington, Kristina Thomas and Kody Griffin; his sister Charlie Tharrington; his siblings-in-law, Barbara Smith, Frances Tharrington, Lynn Tharrington, Nancy Russell and Jeff Knox (Judy); and his caregiver Chaplain. He is also survived by many loving family members and many brothers and sisters.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Baptist Children's Homes of NC.
