He was predeceased by: his sister Dr. Carol Anne Dickson; his former wife Carolyn Dickson Brooks; his close friends, Captain Glenn Dyer, Ben Bolt and William Lewis Craig, Jr.; and his wife Kathleen Moore Aldridge Dickson.
He is survived by: his sons, David Max Dickson, Jr. (Natalie) and Darrell Glenn Dickson (Rachael); his stepsons, James Edward Aldridge, Jr. (Lindsey) and Bryson Moore Aldridge; his grandchildren, Zachary Glenn Dickson (Joanna), David Max Dickson, III, Perry Alexander Dickson (Erin), Coleman Penn Dickson, Quinn Taylor Dickson, Jordan Noelle Dickson, Ella Aldridge, London Aldridge, Logan Aldridge and Liam Aldridge; and his great grandchild Evie Jo Dickson.
His Board service included the UNC Educational Foundation, Wachovia/Wells Fargo Bank and The Durham Tarheel Club, where he served as President for several years.
