He was predeceased by: his siblings, Lawrence Strum, Jerry Strum and Vickie Davenport. He is survived by: his wife Shirley Duck Strum; his children, Darren Strum of Mount Holly and Susan Strum of Mebane; his grandchildren, Emily Strum of Wilmington, Shawn Strum of Chapel Hill and Alaina Strum of Wilmington; and his sister Hazel Davidson of Statesville.
