He was predeceased by: his parents, John August Werner, Sr. and Hilda Clair Schoel Werner. He is survived by: his wife Martha Sue Montgomery Werner; and his children, John August Werner III and Susan Werner Hayes (Billy). He is also survived by four granddaughters, and two great-granddaughters.
