He was predeceased by: his father Arto A. Matthews; his daughters, Karen Matthews and Cindy Buck; and his siblings, Bud Matthews, Hilda Paschall and Dot Rigsbee.
He is survived by: his wife Margaret Matthews (Ann); the mother of his children Virginia Sessoms; his children, Lonnie W. Matthews Jr. (John), Kathy Marcinowski and Lindsey Matthews; his stepdaughter Tammy Davis; his grandchildren, Rod Matthews, Clint Matthews, Amber Browning, Matt Terry, Brooks Buck, Samantha Buck, Jeffery Dunn, Luther Dunn and Jeremy Dunn; and his friend Willie Hall. He is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter.
