With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Marjorie Griffin Hester Whitfield of Durham, North Carolina, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on March 1, 2026 at the age of 102. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
Though her name may fade from the lips of time, the imprint Marjorie leaves upon the hearts of her loved ones remains eternally vivid — a testament to the depth of her spirit and the richness of her legacy.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Robert H. Griffin and Lillie Mae Pendergrass Griffin; and her husband Odell Whitfield. She is survived by: her children, Wanda Gibson (Frank), Charlotte Rippy (Taylor), Keith Hester (Cindy) and Mark Hester (Emma). She is also survived by 3 step-children; 23 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren.
