She was predeceased by: her parents, Dr. Charles Bernard Herman and Mary Miller Herman; and her son James Anderson Cole III. She is survived by: her sister Patsy Surles (Charlie) of High Point; her nephews, Charles Surles (Vanessa), John Surles (Lara) and David Surles (Alison); and her close friend Gayle Speaks. She is also survived by nine grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
