As Mattie departs from this earthly realm, her essence lingers — a whisper on the wind, a ripple on the water — a testament to the enduring power of love to transcend the boundaries of life and death. Though Mattie may no longer walk beside us, her spirit lives on in the memories and the legacy Mattie leaves behind.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Alice Mae Young and Lonnie Blackwell; her adoptive father John Henry Reeder; and her brother Eddie Young (William Earl James). She is survived by: her children, William Kelly James (Butner) and Alison James (Durham); her grandchild Ta'hja; her great grandchild Aria Gibson; and her brother John "June" Henry Reeder.

Viewing was held on Wednesday, April 30th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Hawkins Chapel Baptist Church (2199 Grove Hill Rd, Franklinton, NC 27525). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 30th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Wednesday, April 30th 2025 at the same location.
