It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Sue Whitfield Ward (Durham, North Carolina), who passed away on July 29, 2025, at the age of 85, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Ethel Brinn and James Hastings Whitfield; and her brothers, Milton Whitfield, Ira Whitfield and James Whitfield (Jay).
She is survived by: her husband William V. Ward of Rougemont; her sons, Mark Antrim of Rougemont, Timothy Kyle (Terri) of Knoxville and Jeremy Sean (Michelle) of Rougemont; her grandchildren, William Kyle Ward (Katherine) of Clayton, Monica Darby Ward of Clayton, Alex Temple Ward of New York City, Dr. Maxwell Whitfield Ward (Jessica Bradley) of Roanoke, VA and Nicholas Charles Ward of Rougemont; her great grandchildren, Will, Addison and Mackenzie of Clayton; and her sisters, Mary Lou Holt of Maryland, Ruth Baker, Juanita Ross of Durham and Patricia Whitfield of Greensboro. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 2nd 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Edgewood Baptist Church (1807 Infinity Rd, Durham, NC 27712). A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 2nd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Edgewood Baptist Church Music Program, 1807 Infinity Road, Durham, NC 27712.
