He was predeceased by: his parents, Iva Ruth Dalton Self and Guthrie Carlo Self. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Hedberg Self; his children, Susan Self Caudill (Lowry) and Scott Self (Meredith); his grandchildren, Sarah Fletcher (Andrew), Jeff Caudill (Addy), Claire Caudill (Alex Chan), Griffin Self, Mackenzie Self (Eric Thompson), Will Self and Liza Self; and his great grandchildren, Elliott Fletcher, Henry Fletcher, Oliver Fletcher, Caroline Fletcher, Theo Caudill and Cole Caudill.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 8th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Few Chapel (2600 Croasdaile Farm Pkwy, Durham, NC 27705).
