With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Hazel Joyner Matthews of East Bend, North Carolina, who passed away on December 28, 2023 at the age of 103. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Hazel Joyner Matthews to pay them a last tribute.

She was predeceased by : her parents, Charley G. Joyner and Cornelia Potts Joyner; her husband Bernard "Bernie" Matthews; and her siblings, Tom, Weldon, Wiley "Hank", Stanley Joyner, Virginia "Ginny" Norman and Addie Mae Poindexter.

She is survived by : her son Jerry L. Matthews (Cynthia Darnell) of East Bend; her grandson Jeffrey Matthews (Amy); her great grandchild Katlyn Pearson (Colton) of Wilkesboro, NC; and her great great grandchild Starlyn Pearson. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 243 North Lee Ave., Yadkinville, NC 27055.
