He was predeceased by: his parents, John Andrew and Tressie Tucker Hayes; his wife Jane Groce Hayes; and his siblings, Florence Riner, Maxine Horton, Faye Smitherman, Anna Lee Hemric, Ray, Jesse and Clyde Hayes.
He is survived by: his daughter Paula; his son-in-law Charles Johnson; his siblings, Bernice Cunningham, Carrie Sue Walker (Rodney), Agnes Mayes (Bill) and Harold Hayes (Linda); his brother-in-law Jerry Hemric; his son Charles; and his nephews, John Horton, David, Gary Hayes, Randy Hayes, Greg, Jonathan Hayes, Michael, Brian, Steven Hemric, Mark Walker and Chris Groce (Greg Gilley). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Swaim's Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 3919 Swaim's Church Road, Hamptonville, NC 27020.
