Barnard leaves behind cherished memories for friends, family, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Barnard’s life was marked by connections and experiences that touched those around him. Though he is no longer with us, the moments shared, the laughter, and the support he offered will continue to resonate. All who knew Barnard will carry forward his memory in their hearts.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Wiley A. Ashworth and Emma Davis Ashworth McCray; and his sister Anne A. Bradford. He is survived by: his wife Virginia Hopkins Ashworth; his daughter Carol Ashworth Stephens Talbert; his grandchildren, Kim Stephens Nichols and Michael Stephens; and his brother Bill Ashworth. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 9th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Fair Funeral Home (432 Boone Rd, Eden, NC 27288). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, September 9th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Fair Funeral Home Chapel (432 Boone Rd, Eden, NC 27288).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to Ancora Compassionate Care or Victory Baptist Church, 2040 E. Stadium Dr. Eden NC.
