He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Gatewood and Ola Hooker Gatewood; and his siblings, J. T. Gatewood, Ola Lester and Effie Snody.
He is survived by: his wife Thelma Bell Gatewood; his children, Karen Sue Gatewood Bullins, Ray Gatewood (Tanya) and Darren Gatewood (Lisa); his grandchildren, Kellie Meeks (Darren), Garrett Gatewood and Jackson Gatewood (Lacie Carter); his great grandchildren, Tinleigh Meeks and Lyndsey Meeks; and his sister Betty Ashworth (Earl). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
