He was predeceased by: his former wife Doris Rutledge Spain; his parents, Thad Spain and Pearl Smith Spain; and his siblings, Ruby Spain Miller, Kathleen Spain Tate, Marcell Spain Baker and Walter Spain.
He is survived by: his wife Donna Taylor Spain; his daughters, Anita Spain Jennette (Keith) and Michelle Spain Curry (Kenny); his grandchildren, Brian Shockley, Ben Curry (Sarah), Summer Craddock (Brandon) and Brandon Harbour; his great grandchildren, Grayson Harbour, Emersyn Curry, Denver Craddock, Charleigh Curry and Declan Craddock; and his sisters, Doris Spain Walker and Yvonne Spain Light. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
In lieu of flowers donations may be given to Ancora Compassionate Care in honor of James Woodrow Spain.
