He was loved and cherished by many people including: his mother Doris "Dot" Perry Powell; his brothers, Richard Powell (Kaye) and Kim Powell (Kimberly); and his pet Murphy. He was also cherished by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Draper, 1017 Fieldcrest Rd., Eden, NC 27288.
