John Wayne Tate Sr. Obituary
With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of John Wayne Tate Sr. of Eden, North Carolina, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on March 23, 2026 at the age of 87. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, John B. Tate and Elizabeth Jones Tate; his sister Betty Carol Ellington; his stepparents, Herman White and Nellie Tate; and his stepsiblings, George Tate, John D. "Monk" Tate, Dewey Tate, Robert Tate, Cecil Tate, Debra Boulding, Lorene Lawrence and Elaine Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Vernon Tate; his children, John Wayne Tate, Jr. (Jill) of Reidsville and Gina Tate Byrd (Todd) of Eden; his grandchildren, Bryce Byrd of Eden, Blake Byrd (Natasha) of Bolivia, Holly Tate of Eden and Dylan Tate of Reidsville; his sister Glenda Gunn (Starling) of Reidsville; his stepsister Bessie Sparks of Reidsville; and his brother-in-law James Ellington of Reidsville. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
