He was predeceased by: his mother Sarah Jane Evans; and his sister Dorothy Barnes (James). He is survived by: his wife Nancy Legare Evans; his children, David Ray Evans (Theresa) of Fayetteville and Alice Kay Swanson (Douglas) of Edenton; his grandchildren, Dr. Joshua Evans (Lauren), Katie Marie Evans (Dan), Douglas Haywood Swanson III (Kayla), Cooper Ray Swanson (Danielle) and MaryAlice Leah Swanson; and his great grandchildren, Cynthia Rae Swanson, Dillon Swanson, Judah Evans, Micah Withers and Eden Nancy Evans.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 26th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home & Crematory (735 Virginia Rd, Edenton, NC 27932). A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 27th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Cornerstone Church (617 Soundside Rd, Edenton, NC 27932). A burial will be held on Friday, June 27th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the Beaver Hill Cemetery (420 Doctor M. L. K. Jr Ave, Edenton, NC 27932).
