He was predeceased by: his wife Carolyn Spivey Layton. He is survived by: his siblings, John Thomas Layton, Bertha Harrell Layton, Elbert, Linwood, Gilbert, Melvin, Raymond, Fred, Edna Mae, Gladys, Emma, Ima Jean and Carolyn; his children, Charlotte Ann Layton of Front Royal, VA and Johnny McCoy Layton (Lynne) of Edenton; his grandchildren, Emily Layton Nobles (John) of Morehead City, NC and John Thomas Layton (Liza) of Edenton; and his great grandchildren, John Everett Nobles, IV, Nora Bond Nobles and Henry McCoy Layton (Hank).
