He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Allen Joyner and Sula Bratham Joyner; his wife Brenda Bryant Joyner; and his children, Joy Larue Joyner and Mark Lynn Joyner.

He is survived by: his son Edward Carroll Joyner, Jr.; his stepson Bradford Bryant; his brother Jeff Joyner; the mother of his children Margaret Joyner; his daughter-in-law Mary Rose Joyner; and his granddaughters, Lindsay "Slone" Joyner and Lauren "Larue" Joyner.
