He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Bryant Arthur Lankford and Rachel Patterson Lankford of Efland, NC.; his wife Sylvia Leigh Smith; his brother Henry'Cotton'Lankford; his sons, Reid Lankford (Beverly) of Durham, NC and Mark Lankford (Melissa); his granddaughter Sarah Faye of Rougemont, NC; his daughter Anna Lankford of Durham, NC.; and also Margaret Nelson Lankford. He was also cherished by his family as a 'storyteller, brother, father, and loving husband.
