She was predeceased by: her son John William Melvin; her grandchild Markeda Melvin; and her parents, Charles Castle Byrd and Virginia Barnhill Byrd. She is survived by: her sister Annie Byrd McKee; her great grandchildren, Eden and Marina Melvin; and her husband Luther.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 5th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home & Cremation Services (3131 M. L. K. Dr, Elizabethtown, NC 28337). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 5th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location. A burial will be held on Thursday, June 5th 2025 at the Elizabethtown City Cemetery E Queen.
