He was predeceased by : his parents, Richard Herring and Mattie Lovette Herring; and his siblings, Ralph Herring, Howard Herring, JC Herring, Grace Clark and Mae Gray.

He is survived by : his wife Rose King Herring; his daughters, Shearon Skipper (Mike) of Lumberton, Julie Naughton (Matthew) of Matthews, NC, Kelly Edge (Alan) of White Oak and Jan Davis (Greg) of Matthews, NC; and his grandchildren, Michael Skipper, Joshua Skipper (Taylor), Kat Davis and Amber Davis.
