He was predeceased by: his parents, Noah Raeford and Peggy Swaim Mathis; his wife Patricia McGee Mathis; his sons, Billy Joe Mathis and David Raeford Mathis; and his brother Bobby Watson Mathis.
He is survived by: his siblings, Danny Mathis (Diane) of Jonesville, Janet Vestal (Pete) of Yadkinville, Kathy Huggins (Gregory) of Jonesville, Wendy Combs of Traphill and Susan Hooker (Terry) of Roaring River. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
