He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph E. Melton and Betty Boone Melton; his son Gene Melton, Jr.; his sister-in-law Cindy Melton; and his great-niece Morgan Bristol.
He is survived by: his brother Chris E. Melton of Ellenboro; his nieces, Christy Ledbetter (Josh) of Forest City and Kim Robbins (Joe) of Charlotte; his great-nieces, Adelyn Ledbetter and Sadie Robbins; and his pet Jodie.
