She was predeceased by: her former husband Thomas Jefferson Covington; and her parents, Branson Edmond and Gertie Allred Chappell. She is survived by: her sons, Richard Smith (Jane) and Branson Smith; her grandchildren, Victoria Bolger (George), Caleb Smith (Ayrika), Brandon Smith and Julian Smith; her great grandchildren, Nolan Smith, Juliana Smith, Clyde Smith, Jonah Smith, Cleo Smith, Miles Bolger and Banks Bolger; her husband Emmett Wesley Smith, Jr.; her siblings, Effie Meacham and Larry Chappell; and her caregivers, Joanne, Classie and Marion.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 2nd 2025 from 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM at the First Presbyterian Church (133 Ballard St, Ellerbe, NC 28338). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 2nd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
