He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie "C. R." Robert Brown and Lula Janeverette Ward Brown; his brother Jimmie "J. C." Charles Brown; his grandson Tyler Dees; his siblings-in-law, Jerrall Lee Spencer, Edward "Chip" Wesley Pence, Jr. and Linda Pence Lutes; and his daughter-in-law Leah Denese Alcorn.
He is survived by: his wife Betty; his children, Scott Brown (Annie) of Morehead City, Charlie Brown (Emily Ford) of Salisbury, Ward Brown (Amanda Denton) of Bloomington, Indiana and Jonathan Brown of Portland, Oregon; his grandchildren, Henry Brown, Mason Brown, Allie Brown, Jill Dees, Eleanor Brown, Clara Brown, Lilly Brown, Diego Brown and Lula Brown; his sister Wyvette Brown Spencer of Cary; and his siblings-in-law, Jane Linkous Pence of Chesapeake, Virginia, Jane A. Brown of Mobile, Alabama and Gary W. Lutes, Sr. of Brandon, Florida. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
