He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Avery and Alpha Williams Avery; and his wife Patsy Smith Avery. He is survived by: his daughters, Terri Avery Morris (David Morris) and Traci Avery Faircloth (Harrison Faircloth). He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren.
