He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Edward Penland and Jane Arsula Pressley Penland; his siblings, John Penland, Dixie Franks (Gene), Mary Frances Ray (Michael), Ann Ledford and Mack Penland; and his brother-in-law Lon Thomas.
He is survived by: his sons, Travis Penland (Jennifer) and John Penland (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Sydnee (Travis), Jacob, Hannah (Hunter) and James (Amber); his great grandchildren, Everleigh and Hudson; and his siblings, Margaret Thomas, Walter Penland (Joy) and Mary Penland.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 19th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM at the Chapel of Anders Rice & Roper Funeral Home (1428 Patton Ave, Asheville, NC 28806). A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 19th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A burial will be held on Friday, December 19th 2025 at the Penland Family Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
